Résumé

Introduction

To present the most updated version of a vendor independent universal IOL power calculator and IOL selector

Patients et Methodes

A universal IOL power calculator and IOL selector was developed over the past several years insuring a universal interface, universal 3rd and 4th generation as well as hybrid, post-LASIK and toric IOL calculation formulas, an extended number of features and a universal IOL database.  All formulas were extensively tested against equivalent implementations on IOLMaster and on DGH Ultrasound based systems, when available.  Novel and richer features were also introduced and tested extensively on IOL calculations performed in various clinical contexts, varying from minimal cataract to dense LP cataracts and with the use of a variety of biometric devices.

Résultats

UniversIOL proved to be a most flexible environment in which to analyze, compute and select IOLs of a wide range of functionality.   The standard implementation of classical formulas coincided with the implementation of the commercial devices.   Toric and post-LASIK clinical results matched or exceeded those provided by available calculators and individual manufacturers.

Discussion

UniversIOL, has been developed, validated and fielded in multiple environments providing a flexible, accurate and powerful tool for the computation and selection of IOLs in standard and challenging cases, that is independent of specific manufacturers and biometric tools.  With a universal database of IOLs it allows the surgeon the side by side comparison of possible selections, their rankings, and the chosing of the optimal one on the basis of well characterized preselected criteria including, but not limited to, the targeted spherical and cynlinder refraction.

Conclusion

A universal IOL power calculator and selector, UniversIOL, has been developed, validated and fielded in multiple environments providing a flexible and powerful tool that is independent of specific manufacturers and biometric tools.
